WANDSWORTH COMMON
Award Winning Modern House Renovation in South West London
Award winning modern London house renovation + basement extension providing a modern, open plan, family home with a luxurious, high quality finish throughout.
The owners of this stunning property wanted to start afresh having inherited the style of the previous owners. However, they didn’t really know where to begin with such a large undertaking.
Approaching the design as a blank canvas, the brief was open to designing something a bit different, albeit behind a traditional Victorian facade.
Clever Storage
Taking advantage of the large footprint, the home plays with the scale of the rooms to give the family a variety of spaces upon which to lounge, snug, entertain, cook, chill, work and go about their daily lives.
The ground floor is completely devoid of any internal walls except for a dark Valchromat-clad ribbed box which houses all utilitarian needs (WC, utilities, and in-built storage).
The same concept is followed downstairs in the 3m height basement. From there, a double-height atrium lets you see both dark clad boxes linking the living areas in both levels.
The box hides other features – like the sliding folding doors that can be pushed completely out of sight. This level of flexibility provides the family with the option to use the spaces openly for entertaining or enclosed for a more intimate feel.
A Place to Unwind
The master suite along with two kids’ bedrooms and a family bathroom – all with bespoke furniture occupy the first floor, whilst a guest en-suite takes over the second storey.
The master bedroom takes over half of the first floor. With every space providing an intimate relaxing oasis.
From the bedroom, large glazed doors lead out into a private balcony. In the master bathroom, microcement walls and honed marble floors add a luxurious touch. Natural light floods the space through a 2m x 2m skylight above the bath.
Collaborative Design
Like in most of our projects, its success lies in the sum of all its parts. The high-quality end result in this modern London house renovation project is down to having a great team of designers and builders working together. Above all however, it comes down to a trusting Client open to ideas and willing to try something different.
